Calling Services

What is a calling service?

Calling Services require a monthly or per job payment to acquire Extra work for you and could be either a Traditional or an Online Service.

Calling Services are not Casting Directors! They are a booking agents who submit to Casting Agents, on behalf of their clients (often in bulk E-Mails) when the client has indicated they are available for a Background Acting job. Casting Directors may then book as few or as many of these Background Actors and give the information about Call Times, Wardrobe, Hair, Directions and Categories of Character to the Calling Service. It is then up to the Calling Service to provide the information to their client and confirm the booking.

Do I need a calling service?

Many Background Actors find the use of a Booking Service very helpful and easy compared to constantly calling the direct Casting Lines at casting agencies and struggling to obtain work, which is difficult and at times impossible. If you are seeking Union background work, a calling service is a near requirement.

How much does it cost?

Each service has it’s own Registration and monthly fee.

Monthly: $45 – $75 / Month seems to be the current average depending on a few things such as, age, Union Status, number of working days obtained and other factors.

Registration: Fees for registration vary from about $20 on the low side to well over a hundred for service that require first month, last month and a registration fee.

  • booked talent: Booked Talent is one of la’s newest and finest calling service. The owner, management and staff are all previously from Atmosphere Talent. Their staff has a combined experience of 14 years.
  • Extras Access: Breakdown Services created the process now used around the world to communicate the roles being cast. Breakdown Services is the company that major studios, networks, and independents use.
