Casting Agencies

Casting Agents are hired by the productions from Film, Television and Commercials to provide Background Actors for Atmosphere in movies, TV Shows and Advertisements.

Background Casting Agencies cast Acting jobs directly with Actors through phone or computer submissions and also make use of Calling Services to book calls.

Casting agents or agencies are hired by the Production to fill the calls for Atmosphere or Background Actors based on their daily shooting requirements. The assistant director of Productions is usually in charge of calling the Casting Agent and making an order for the Background Artists needed often only the day before the actual shoot.The Production Manager may also determine the hiring of the background players.man_2

Many Casting Agents then put the call on their Booking Information line outlining the requirements for submitting to the Casting Call. (i.e. Age, Ethnicity, Height / Weight, Wardrobe, Hair, Style, Location etc…) Some Casting Agents also use the assistance of a Calling Service to help book the calls by casting several people but only having to give all of the details to the service who will then contact each of the Background Actors individually to confirm the booking.

When a Background Actor is booked on a call he / she is given all of the necessary information to arrive to the call with proper location, wardrobe / hairstyle etc… Usually there is an emergency number given as well in case there are in problems. It is very important to maintain proper communication should any issue arrive.

Once you have arrived to the location you should have clear instructions on where to go and who you should check in with. The Production Assistant (PA) or an Assistant Director (AD, 2nd AD, 2nd 2nd AD) will probably be the person on the crew who gives you the paperwork to be paid and will instruct you from there on.
